On our final night at Bahia Tomini, Marina of Marseille, challenged me to a game of Scrabble. The rules would be different though. Because Marina speaks little English and I speak zero French she would make French words, while I would make English ones. What made this match even more trickier, was that the Scrabble board and its tiles were in the Spanish.
To ensure that neither of us would make false words, Titus, Marina’s husband, would be the French referee and Elenka, the English spelling ref.
It was a tight game right until the end with Marina holding the lead by a narrow margin. Then I, who had been holding an ‘s’ close to my chest, used it on my last play of the game to make ‘JUMP’ JUMPS’, which brought about a 245 to 245 tie.
