Sea creatures have souls too

West Bay, Bay Islands Department, Honduras
.
Each morning after breakfast, Elenka and I walk 300 hundred or so metres down the beach to where we begin our daily snorkel. It’s a lovely little close-to-the-shore reef with plenty of fish. After 30-40 minutes of slowly combing the area it gets a bit chilly though. So to get back to our own beach I swim hard, to try and warm myself up, while Elenka takes a slower, more coolish approach, looking, always looking, for bigger and better sea creatures.
.
.
While alone, without me to hassle her, Elenka came across a green moray eel who at first scared the Dickens out of her … before the tables turned. Elenka took out her handy video recorder and captured a whole 13 seconds of the retreating eel in living colour. But it was her second effort, the 22 second one, that she’s most proud of. Her work isn’t quite National Geographic yet, but I believe she is moving in the right direction. Elenka’s status has been elevated from photog to oceanographer.

Note: I refer to the two sea creatures as a ‘he’ or ‘she’ rather than an ‘it’. This is done intentionally.

Scary green sea monster! But what's the source of the background noise? Is that a motorboat going by?

That's a cute moray. Often maligned as their breathing looks a little aggressive. I agree, sea creature Elenka should not be referred to as "it" :)
