Koh Jum, Krabi, Thailand
Michelle, Elenka and I spent a fair bit of our final few days on Koh Jum at Bo Daeng, the tired old-hippie resort run by the sea gypsy, Dila. Those who stay at Bo Daeng are mostly European. Many of them return every year and stay there four to five month stretches—while many of them are interesting conversationalists, others are reclusive. Bo Daeng ain’t pretty and there is no electricity. However, the food which is prepared on an open-fire is excellent and inexpensive. My guess is, the yuppies, hippie-phobes and those moving forward in other ways, give Bo Daeng a wide berth.
.
Anyway, nuff said. I’ve sent a few photos and a Wikipedia link which provides a lot of interesting information about sea gypsies, aka Moken or Urak Lawoi.

That does look interesting! I think I found that magnetic pull! It’s the pleasant remembrance of the 60’s. I enjoy how open and accepting you both are to all cultures and you are fortunate enough to experience their lifestyles. Thanks for sharing

Hi Iak, Largo, Florida has the same ugly duck, Muscovy. My cousin has them in her backyard near her pond. Who knows where they originally come from.
