Home Sweet Home ..... sort of

Arequipa, Arequipa, Peru
Ahhhhh....Peru!   Home sweet home in a way. I've spent so much time in this country that I just feel like it's my second home. Leaving the modernization, organization, cleanliness, orderliness and high prices behind in Chile, I just couldn't help but smile when I crossed the border into Peru and my bus didn't leave on time, the name on my bus ticket was for someone named Alex Nevarga, a "No Urinating" sign was needed right on the main street, someone was selling dozens of baby piglets on the side of the road next to the bus, and impatient Peruvians were yelling at a totally unresponsive bus driver to get going. I love the chaos,  it's just fascinating. But then I started to think, "why is this fascinating"???
What could I possibly like about a country where people pee wherever they feel like, the store shelves are full of everything that you're not looking for, and NOTHING is ever on time . In fact Peru's government has recently begun a cultural quest to change the country's endearing attitude toward their constant lateness... which all backpackers have come to accept as "hora Peruana" or Peruvian time. It just goes without saying that everything starts about an hour late. An interesting news article about it can be found here. So now I wonder what all this says about me. I guess I'll just try to figure it out later... maybe in an hour or so.
