After pouring ourselves into an 8:00 AM bus following a full night at an Ushuaia nightclub, 15 hours later we arrived in the quiet little port town of Puerto Natales.  I don't think much really goes on in this town but the locals were friendly and the food was good. People come here to use it as a launching point to Torres del Paine National park and we'll do the same. After stocking up on some food, we were on our way the next morning.

Day1, Torres del Paine hike ... 18 kms round trip. (11 miles). Since we only have a few days in the park it means we don't have to carry our big packs on the trail everywhere we go. However, it also means if we hike somewhere, we have to make the round trip to come back to camp. So we get to travel light in exchange for long distances. Day one took us to the famous Torres, or towers in english.   We got lucky and had a spell of cold but somewhat clear weather to get photos of the north, central and south towers. The pix are better than my description so just check those out.

Day 2, Lago Pehoe' crossing and The Glacier Grey hike...22 kms round trip (or 13.6 miles) We commuted by bus and a catamaran to cross Lake Pehoe to reach camp on our second day in the park. We decided the hike to Glacier Grey would fit our time schedule better than the Valle de Frances trek so off we went to do the 22 km round trip hike. Winds at times were amazingly strong and could easily stop you in your tracks, blow you off the trail, or puch you forward into a full run to keep from falling down.   The only protection from the wind was the calm forest trails. Once again, the photos are pretty cool from this hike so I won't write so much about it.
Day 3, Drink wine and wait for the catamaran to pick us up. Rest day... well, we really have no excuse but we decided to be wimps after walking 25 miles in the last 2 days and just enjoy the fresh air and cheap boxed wine that they sell for way too much.   That concludes my visit to Torres del Paine. An outstanding national park!
