We both agree, I couldn’t have found a better oasis anywhere. It’s so peaceful, (4pm Thursday, and we’re sitting in the bar in a sunny window seat, Kevin reading and I’m blogging).
This morning before breakfast Kevin decided he’d better spend the $5. he was given by the TAB yesterday. His account has grown from $340 odd to $585. He always reads the Daily News on his iPad, and has the same availability of his TAB account. But there was a story this morn that I’ll let him dictate.
First I must say, the wifi, internet here is absolute rubbish. Apparently everything has been done, even the lastest roll out broadband, but nothing makes it any better, it’s the same anywhere in the village - well thats what I’ve been told.
Kevin’s story: daily news racing page, willie Fleming had two horses racing at Cambridge Harness. Rangiangdo & ?, he took a quinella with Rangi, never came in. Then the other was in the last race, so he coupled it with the horse David Butcher was driving. We went down for breakfast, came back and he checked the results and he’d won! $150 return for $5 gift from the TAB. BUT......... he didn’t get it on, the internet had dropped off!
Spent an hour sorting out what was rubbish, pamphlets, tickets, packaging etc, and what could go to hospice, via the young Queensland Aussie girl. She was rapt. A radio Kevin had bought (he liked a radio in the morning) most use tv I think. The food flask, all the Qatar freebies, untouched (included 4 pairs pyjamas), an unpackable umbrella, a Kathmandu jacket of zkevins he didn’t want, etc.
Repacked bags - have plenty of room, 40kgs each checkin, x2 each 7kg hand luggage. Weighed the bags then found ourselves questioning the scales.
We then went looking for a test pot of red paint of paint, the nail polish wasn’t working as fast as I wanted, it worked very well as a top coat lacquer for finishing off.
Back here for a coffee and to paint the car! An English man said to me, I wondered if you were alright, then I saw you were painting the bumper! Then down the road to top up the petrol & vacuum the car out.
We still found time for a 5km walk along the canal, we weren’t going to risk taking the car anywhere else.
We spent an hour down in the bar, lovely sunny bay window, to blog and Kevin to socialise.
Now back in our room having a wine and nibbles watching the news, there has been a case of BSE (mad cow disease) found in Huntley, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Now thinking I’ll have to remove the shoes from the bottom of the bag to the top!!!!!
There MIGHT be a blog from Doha, we have a 8.5hr stopover, qualifies us for a hotel room.
We leave here 8.45pm Friday evening NZ time, touch down NP 9.15am Sunday NZ.
Well, we went down to pay the room account and ended up sharing an entree of black risotto (squid ink) with octopus and scallops, was yummy, then shared a dessert of ice cream. Gosh they were busy. It’s a lovely country pub, very popular.
