I had cards to post, Drove down the street looking for a sign and saw a VAN, the post service is in a van, wonderful, sell everything, cards, bags, boxes and even bags of lollies.
The horses continue to come and go until lunchtime. Fabulous atmosphere in this little town.
We went to Richmond, I had seen on the web at home that there was a Georgian Theatre which had been restored and was operational today.
On the way we passed the Carrick Garrison just outside of Richmond. Lacking a true "town centre," the Garrison gained its first large supermarket, a Tescostore, in 2000; along with a retail park known as "Richmondshire Walk", which also includes a McDonald's, a Poundstretcher and a Peacocks, among others. "Catterick Leisure Centre" is a purpose built complex opposite the retail park, opened in July 2009, it offers a broad spectrum of leisure and fitness facilities including a swimming pool, and a gym, as well as an adjoining public library. The Georgian Theatre in Richmond was wonderful, we had a private tour - we were the only ones who turned up, with David (73), he has only lived in Richmond for 25yrs but was fully involved and dedicated to the Theatre.
He was an exceptional guide. His daughter was married on the stage 2weeks ago. http://www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk/
Bolton Castle: Did you go there Nina & Richard? It was an absolutely freezing cold day, mainly due to the bitter cutting wind, we don’t do outside climbing ruins on days like that!!! We did walk thru it, thru the cafe/kitchen -huge, to the gift shop, turned around and left, it was so depressing.
Went back to Leyburn, the village up the hill from Middleham, we’re down in a valley at Middleham. Leyburn is an other really nice prospering town. Did a wee shop - for our 3 girls, then headed for the Botlon Arms for a beer for a Kevin and a Pink Gin for me, which I really did enjoy.
The Bolton Arms are very hospitable, providing dog bowls, (amazing the number of shop who have bowls of water outside them for the dogs), and even a selfie frame - for the dogs!!! Something we did like tho, was the awesome fireplace.
Had homemade leek & potato soup (using up veggies), with ham, cheese & tomato grilles.
Watched an extremely interesting TV program on the pacific islands, including NZ, about native species and their imported predators, learnt a lot.
