We had a lovely day out and about in Paris today. Since we only had the one day we decided not to try and get into any of the major attractions but to just wander and enjoy the ambience of this beautiful city.
It was about a 40 minute walk from our hotel to the Eiffel Tower so we headed off in that direction first. It’s such a wonderful icon for the city and always such a thrill to see it. Parts of it were shrouded from view. I guess Paris is starting to spruce everything up ready for the Olympics in 2024.
We’d left our hotel knowing that it was going to be cool outside and we were really enjoying the walk in the brisk morning air. That is until we decided to jump on a hop on hop off bus and sit up the top for the perfect view. Add the wind chill factor in and two little icicles got off that bus an hour or so later. I, at least, had my puffer jacket to put on but Sheila was stoically suffering with just her cardigan. We needed an hour in Printemps department store and two cups of hot tea before we could feel our fingers and toes again. It was so cold!
Thanks, Beth for the great tip. We found your restaurant recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed the French Onion Soup even though we had to retrace our steps to get to it. Worth the effort. The soup was great and the restaurant full of character. My phone was down to about 1% power by the time we got there and the kindly maître D put it on a charger for me while we ate our dinner. Thank goodness because we weren’t exactly sure how to find our way back to the hotel without Google maps!
We’ve very much enjoyed our day in Paris and managed to walk 14.5kms around her streets. Tomorrow we’re tackling the railway system again and heading down to the French village of St Jean Pied De Port at the base of the Pyrenees, close to the Spanish border.

when I travel on the big red bus I like to sit upstairs but right at the front where there is a wind shield to protect you from the cold winds. Looks like you covered a lot of ground for only one day in Paris. Enjoy your next day!

Hey Leanne, Paris looks as beautiful as ever. I'll be there soon myself. How long are you in Europe? I wonder if we have any dates and places in common? Enjoy your trip. Don't envy you all that walking but am sure you'll love it.

What an adventure you have taken on! Good luck with the walking, sure you will sort out rest days when you need them. I think you can eat up in Paris as you will be walking all those cakes off in the next month or so. Bonne chance.

A perfect (if cold) Parisian promenade - love the photos - and I’m guessing the Yaoyoi Kusama display was outside Louis Vuitton - I saw that on her Instagram site. XX
