My back was feeling better this morning but just to be on the safe side I took out everything from my backpack that I thought I could do without to lighten the load a bit. That did help I think. The anti inflammatories have kicked in and things seem pretty good. Doing my back exercises religiously now.
So a short walk today. The guide book said we’d walk through three hilltop villages. Yes hill top…more climbing! Who said the hard part was over!! Walking out of Puente La Reina we stopped to admire the bridge once again. The reflections of the arches in the river are quite stunning.
It was only a shortish walk but it wasn’t an easy walk. We climbed up to each village and then climbed right back down and then climbed up to the next village and down again and so on three times. I was very glad we were only going as far as Lorca today because I was done by the time we got here. There is nothing much in Lorca but two albergues, no other shops so they have the market on beds and food. Luckily the food is pretty good. We’re back in a dorm room tonight. Beggars can’t be choosers. At least we have beds. Lots of walkers were turned away and had to keep walking on looking for somewhere to stay the night.
We spent most of the afternoon securing our accommodation for the next few nights. The lady in the bar was quite helpful. We’ve had to adjust our plans again to accommodate the long weekend. Tomorrow we’ve got a short walk into Estella but the day after we’ve had to add an extra 6km to our journey. That will test us!

.Long weekends always sneak up on you. It all sounds very difficult! Glad the back is holding up but go gently, there’s lots ahead. Does no one other than walkers live in Spain? It seems very quiet.

Such an atmospheric area - love the bridge ! Happy May Day - I’m guessing that’s the reason for the long weekend. XX

I'm loving this travel blog, Leanne. I feel like I'm doing it with you. I appreciate that you take the effort, even in extreme pain, to do the write-up each night. Keep up the back exercises!
