Somewhere Over The Pacific, International
After spending 2 nights on airplanes - Tue to Toronto and Wed to Shanghai, it is nice to get onto firm ground. We learned that AC had swapped our B777 for a smaller one due to the traffic volume on the Narita flights. After over 15 hours across the polar route, we arrived Shanghai at 4:30 Thur afternoon. The airport is immense, all of the gates had nothing but wide body aircraft parked at them. Customs line-ups were likely in excess of 1000 people but they had 60 officers clearing the passengers. Roads are excellent, many are elevated and the traffic moved fast - especiially our taxi driver. The hotel is a 4 Star and as Rewards traveler we enjoyed a complimentary Tsing Tao. Dinner was- guess what? - Chinese food. Kelly remembers the menu with Sea Slugs, Pigeon, Bull Frog and other odd items and they were all here. We are in downtown Shanghai on HengFeng Road which is in a business / shopping area. Today we do some exploring and will be checking out the Bund and some of the good deals. So far we have had no commuication problems and people are pleasant and helpful.
Corey sent us the new itinerary for the cruise ship. Thanks for that. We are now skipping Japan and going to Jeju Island in South Korea and 2 days in Hong Kong. I would have liked it if they could have left Busan on this Journey but we do not have any influence on that.
We check out of the Holiday Inn here on Sat and sail at 5 PM.
