Saturday 22 July
After arriving at Sandstone Park, a new private camp area on Bandana Station for $20 per night, we set up with a view of the escarpment.
We drove into the National Park area, which was a camping area about 23 years ago, when we camped there with Ross and Jenny Adams. We found the track to the Rock Pool, and walked the 600 metres in, to contemplate and reflect at the spot where Oliver's friend and music teacher died tragically in 2002, when the band was on tour and was camping at Carnarvon. Hard to believe that such a calm and serene place could have been such a place of absolute heartbreak. We left a small stone cairn to join some left by others.
Sunday 23 July
The weather was perfect for bush walking, 2 degrees minimum and 20 maximum, so we set off to walk as far as Wards Canyon, about 9 ks return and on the way back we did the Amphitheatre and Moss Gardens off shoots. All in all about 11 ks which was as much as my feet, hips and back could take.
23 years ago, Oliver decided to be the first back at camp, after we all walked to the Cathedral, BUT, he didn't tell us he was leaving (well, we didn't hear him tell us) so when we realised he was missing Rick rushed the next couple of kilometres on to Big Bend, and I raced back to the camp ground - about 9 ks done at double pace. There he was, waiting for us where I thought he would be. We missed the places we had left for the return journey, so today was a finalising of that first walk. I'm glad we returned and enjoyed it at a calmer pace.
Monday 24 July
A lazy morning with a short, 3 kilometre walk to Micky's Creek, then a drink at the Wilderness Lodge, before going back to Sandstone Park for a relaxing afternoon. We'll leave here tomorrow. We've revisited lots of old memories here, and I'm glad we came.

You've been lucky to have a lot of lovely, blue sky weather, if a bit on the chilly side.

Only two days of rain in the whole trip so far!
