Cobar, New South Wales, Australia
Sunday 2 July
-2. 5degrees this morning as we organised ourselves to leave Wilcannia. I did suggest we drive up the Darling River to Bourke, but someone has had enough of the dirt for this trip, so we're keeping to the bitumen.
We drove the 260 kilometres on the black top to Cobar, passing hundreds of feral goats, both inside and outside fencing. There were quite a few emus too.
After a bit of mis direction from the tour leader we were guided by a couple of local lads on motorbikes to the place I wanted to camp at the old, as opposed to the new, reservoir just outside Cobar.
Once the kids with motorbikes and their families went home, we had the place to ourselves. While we cooked a lamb roast on the Webber, Rick tried his luck with the yabbie pots and actually caught one about two metres from where we sat near the fire! Tea was delicious and the night was warmer, AND I watched Poldark! - what more could I ask for? - though I am getting a little tired of Ross's deep and non meaningful dark looks.
Monday 3 July
A little rain fell during the night, just enough to lay the dust, but it made the night temperature warmer, which was a welcome change.
Rick discovered lots of blue claw in his trap, so we are definitely staying longer at this idyllic spot. I kept myself busy googling yabbie recipes as we shall soon have a freezer full! Well, I might be exaggerating a little.
Being the intrepid explorers that we are, we circumnavigated the reservoir - took about 20 minutes - then spent the rest of the day blobbing around at camp. Rick calls it doing "sweet f a".
Karen and Duncan from Orange came for a drink at our fire, then we had spare ribs with broccolini and carrots for mains and chocolate self saucing pudding for dessert. No photos as I always forget after two glasses of wine;-)
