Bingling Si - Ancient Buddhist Cave Art

Liujiaxia, Gansu Sheng, China

Bingling Si is a set of temples carved into small caves and
alcoves in a side canyon of the Huang He (Yellow) River near where it enters the
Liujiaxia Reservoir . The statues and paintings are considering outstanding examples
of Buddhist art in China, although they are not as impressive overall as the
Mogao Caves and Yungang Caves I visited on a previous trip in China or the
Adjanta and Ellora Caves I visited a few months earlier in India. Half the fun
of Bingling Si is getting there. Although I read there’s a road that goes there
over the mountains, we went by small speed boat across the reservoir.
