Kananaskis

Mount Kidd RV Park, Alberta, Canada
When we were thinking on what to do, we decided to go to Kananaskis as it was Paul’s favorite place to camp and we were here 14 years ago and loved it, the scenery is breath taking and there are not that many tourists.
Refilling in Canmore
Gas and groceries: our original plan to stay here for three nights, and that means we have to prepare ourselves with enough (non-required-refrigerated-food), we did buy an icepack, so that we are able to keep the fridge a bit cool.
Beautiful scenery along Hwy 40
Turning off onto Hwy 40 and driving south the scenery is breathtaking -the mountains here are so gorgeous – the further we headed in, the darker got the clouds, when we opened the window, we realized it is freezing here (as per our truck it is only 11 C – and it is early afternoon, that means at its warmest) – and then it started to drizzle – and we asked ourselves, how much fun would we have camping in the wild in our small (not winterised) camper???? And that is when we decided to turn around: which was cool as we came across some Big-Horn-Sheep which were on the road and were not disturbed with our loud engine.
We decided to stay for the night at Paul’s favorite RV Park – Mt Kidd because here we would at least have electricity to take out some of the cold. We got a nice campsite and as we set up our truck, we discovered that we lost our fridge vent cover – such a bummer!!!! As we have phone reception we at least can check out things like the weather: there is one thing we discovered and that is: that here in Kananaskis it is 5-8 C colder than in Calgary – we are so tired of being cold!!! So, Paul called Gerry and tomorrow we will head to Calgary and hopefully 30 C on the weekend – we can’t wait for the warm and maybe a day on a lake without freezing off our feet!!!
As we were here the sun comes and goes – and that means it is reasonable “warm as in not too cold” and raining and windy which is cold. A good time to catch up on our computer work and doing not too much.
A bit going outside and walking – heading back inside – a lazy day at the RV Park that is what we did today.
Rain – Snow – sun - clouds
And we had another night of rain – or as we discovered on our way out: it did snow up on the mountains and then we woke up to some beautiful sunshine with the clouds hanging around the mountains. That made us wonder should we stay??? But it still super cold here. When checking out we discovered here it is around 8 C cooler than in Calgary.
We left in sunshine and saw the fresh snow up on the hills.
At Beaver Dam
On the drive out we had some more gorgeous mountain views. What we didn’t like about Kananaskis is, that you have to pay 15 $ per day if you want to park. As we are not interested in a walk, but only short stops, we thought that is totally over the top. So we did Stop at the Beaver Dam for a few minutes to check out the view, then at the info center to get some internet and then we leave the mountains in search for warm weather.
Leaving the mountains behind us
Today with the beautiful sunshine we could really enjoy it driving out of the mountains and into the nearly flat foothills – I think it is so cool as you can see the mountains when they are that far away. One day we have to come back here (when it is warmer and we have more time).
