Stone Mountain PP – Summit Lake PP
Scenic drive along Toad River
As we continued on, the Alcan follows
the Toad River with some amazing mountains views and glimpses on the turquois super
cool looking river – this was a super cool drive. Sometimes the mountains are
so high and the road so close to it, that we are in the shade.
Stone mountain provincial park: the
Erosion pillars
We did enter the Stone Mountain
Provincial park and stopped at the parking lot to the Erosion Pillar: Paul said
it is way to hot – I am not walking in that heat – so Gine set off alone and
first only a bit uphill until a scramble at the end to come to the gigantic
hoodoo and some nice views. Now we are hot!!
A nearly swim at the Summit Lake
Soon after we are on the highest point
of the Alaskan Highway the summit pass 1295m and here is summit lake with a
campground – we drive in and are surprised that there is no-one camping here,
as the lake is gorgeous and half of the site are on the lake. We pull in and
have coffee – still thinking if we should stay. After coffee we decided to jump
in the lake to cool down – but the lake was so cold that we went in and washed
ourselves off and cooled down – but didn’t swim. I think we should keep going.
A drive with lots of stops to Fort
Nelson
As we continue on, we had to stop
several times for constructions – at one time we at least had a super nice stop
with amazing river views on the Tetsa river – and then we went downhill – views
over lots and lots of forest – never ending, and as we drive downhill we are
now on the other side of the Rocky Mountains. Yes we are in the next days in
the “Northern Rockies”. One time we can watch them put in the new Asphalt – we
are no expert.
