Car Show in Radium Hot Springs
We leave early to register
Gerry and Ron are both working and
only will be able to leave around 6 pm – it takes 3 hrs to Radium, and
pre-registration closes at 9 pm. Gine had then the idea that we leave with the
Truck early and register. And so we filled up gas in Calgary, did some last
shopping and then we left Calgary. It was another beautiful and sunny day – but
today we couldn’t see the mountains as clear – like still due to the smoke in
the air – but we can slowly see the outlines.
A beautiful drive through Canmore and
then Banff along the Bow Valley until the turn off comes to the Kootenay NP and
then down another scenic road until we reach Radium Hot springs. We had a lot
of amazing views on the mountains…
It’s not fresh air – it’s a burn out
Driving into Radium – we were a bit
surprised on both sites of the road the old cars were parked everywhere and
people were sitting in their chairs to watch the road and we wondered if there
is a parade going on??? So we pulled in when we saw a parking spot (lucky there
was a spot for us) and asked and heard that the cars are driving by here to do
burn outs!!! Now Paul was excited.
There were some super cool ones like
the Hell cat, the Nova, the Diesel Truck and GTO – but lots of others too. And
we were at the perfect spot, because we learned that only in that one stretch
it was allowed to do burnouts with a few kids near us we had a lot of the burn
outs right in front of us: ok if we thought we came for the fresh mountain air
here – then we were so wrong, as we were in white and black smoke…. But it was
so much fun!!!!
Ok we had a short break for supper
(that was hard for Paul so he sat with view on the road) and we had to go and
register Colins car (Gerry’s judge couldn’t come as there was a leak in the
exhaust and Paul was not so sure if it is save or if the judge could get really
in trouble) – as there were cars everywhere we parking in the handicapped
parking lot and Gine stayed with the truck and Paul registered and back to the
burn out we go!!!
Staying at Carol’s & Don
Once Gerry arrived we saw him and then
called him, that he passed us and guided him to us in the parking lot, they
were eating their sub sandwich supper to watch a few more burn outs at night
and as it started to rain it was time to go. We in the front as Gine has the
GPS and we went the last part to Canal Flats where Carol & Don have a
cottage. It was 11 pm once we arrived there and we were tired and went to back,
because tomorrow morning we have to get up early – we need to be at 9 am in
Radium – which is a 45 Min drive from here.
So up in the morning and we got some
yummy Bagel breakfast served and a bit late but we were only 19 minutes behind
to meet Colin and then to the golf course and we go to the show.
A sunny day at the car show
In the morning there were still some
clouds lingering around the mountain and it was cool in the shade – so we
started in the sun and we had a beautiful perfect day on the car show: did we
see all one thousand cars? I’m not so sure – but we saw a lot of really cool
cars. And it was also a lot of fun to walk around with the others – in this
case pictures talk.
BBQ at Colins
After the show was over, we drove to
Colins Cabin and then relaxed on his back deck and then also had burgers with
fries
And that was also super cool as Carol
had the idea to check out how we all met Gerry as neither one of us knew the
other person but everyone knew Gerry: like Ron who was with Gerry the newbie in
Schook, Colin who met Ron’s brother who was also a car freak and through Mark
and Ron met Gerry, Paul who met Gerry some 40 years ago and they went to check
out cars and bought the Judge together and Carol who started to work with Gerry
12 years ago and has a husband who loves to drives fast cars and is also a car
lover.
Good Bye to everyone
Afterwards we went back to Don &
Carols and after another relaxed and wonderful night we had another Bagel breakfast
and then it was time to say good bye to everyone as Gerry, Ron & Colin will
go back to Calgary and we are leaving to head home… and so we all are on the
road….
