Welcome Home: Comox
Sunshine on the ferry
Then we headed to the ferry – lots of traffic in Vancouver: The ferry leaves at 11.05 as per GPS we will be there at 11.06 – so Paul made sure we are always in the passing line and we did try to be there on time. We bought our tickets at 11.02 – and sadly we were not able to make the ferry by two RVs. Time to make coffee and head to the village of horseshoe bay and to enjoy the sunshine.
Back on the ferry we had a wonderful sunny ride back to the island – great views and lots of sun….
We are home!!!
The last stretch of the journey was short, as all is familiar and we are eager to be home. How amazing to drive into our driveway. Then bringing Mandy inside… I’m not sure if she was right away sure where she is, but she was soon home when we brought her kittylitter box inside. Getting out the food from the Camper and we decided to have a sub sandwich as we are super tired.
It is unbelievable on how many trips it took to bring the staff out of the camper!!! Did we really had all the staff inside???? Time to clean up and get it ready.
And here is a summary of our trip:
  • We were gone from June 2 – Sept 19: 3.5 month and spend 107 nights in our camper: 74 nights we camped for free and paid for 34 nights
  • Our most expensive campground was a RV park near Denal when we paid 71 US (like 93 CAD) a night!!! But it was so cold and rainy we needed heat and there was not really another spot around – the cheapest campground was in Quesnel for 12.50 cents. The most stupid Campground fee was the self registration along the icefield highway were someone thought it is a great idea to put 16.75 in an envelope (really 75 cents!!!)
  • We drove 15788 km – filled up gas 45 times with the cheapest in Alberta/Calgary 1.71 and the most expensive in the Yukon in Eagle Plains for 2.56!!!! and in average our truck used 18.9 l / 100 km. We spend 6491 $ in gas for 2966 liters, that means 40% of our overall vacation expenses was the Gas!!!
  • We dumped 28 times!!! Our longest stretch without dumping was 6 days!!!!! (ok then the black tank was full!!)
  • We visited 8 laundromats and know the best models and had to refill our propane 4 times
  • We discovered that Alaska is super pricy!!!! And we went way over budget there
  • Our coldest night was when we woke up and had 3C inside our camper and ice on our windows
And now what???
We decided: we like to travel, but no more than 3 month and then we want to come back home. Next time we want to go into the warm. Next summer we want to hang around. Gine will go back to work casual (so Paul has some days "off" and we get some more vacation money) and we start planning our next trip for after christmas.....
Oh and we also will sell our truck and camper - actually it was sold in no time - and now we will go back and get an RV. And so after arriving home we did a trip to Powel River to look at one (not so well planned on our part, as we put on a down payment and decided then not to buy it called the guy - but we only would get the deposit back if we look at it - so we had a daytrip in beautiful sunshine to Powel River and back). But then there is always next year....
