Krong Siem Reap, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia
After 13 years of school, Rhys is set free to immerse himself in Cambodian culture. More importantly, the sense of 'giving back' for all the fortune and opportunity he has had regarding his education was foremost the criteria for embarking on this unique schoolies experience.
Over the course of 11 days, Rhys met 6 other like minded schoolies and together they set about Siem Reap.
Their first task was to assist in the construction of a simple raised home for a family whose father died in the recent typoon. The family was a mum and her 3 sons. After 4 days of stripping bamboo and nailing the flooring, the house was complete and the results speak for themselves... a proud new family to move in and 6 proud teenagers armed with the knowledge that they had helped people less fortunate than themselves.
From here after, Rhys had many amazing food experiences, massages (fish nibbling toes), shopping at his favourite shop 'Ashi', going to a Cambodian fun fair and circus, being entertained by tranvestite performers and ultimately; a trip to Cambodia is not complete without a visit to the World Heritage Site Angor Wat.
Rhys returned home on Wednesday 5th December a little worldlier and alittle wiser.
