We all were groggy eyed and slept past the 9am alarm. Mum had
to prod everyone up by 9.30 to get packed. The knock on the door by the cleaner
told us we were late for our 11am checkout.
We caught the metro to Busan station then quickly purchased
tickets for the SRT headed for Daegu at 12.45pm. The SRT is
apparently a super quick train (quicker than the KRT) and took 50 mins to
arrive into Daegu. From there we transferred to the subway system and got the
metro to Jungangno Station where we walked a further 400m to Midtown Hostel
(booked with Agoda and by far the most expensive accommodation to date.
The hostel is really cute. Each person has a shoe locker
(only indoor shoes to be worn in the room), and the room was tiny but had 2
double bed bunks and a 3rd double bed + small kitchen and tiny ‘wet’
bathroom (when you shower you end up wetting the entire bathroom, toilet
included. This is very common in Asian homes).
We set off to explore the city of Daegu, finding the eastern
Medicine Museum nearby with an outdoor foot spa (only the water was frozen)
and many stamp points (the kids have enjoyed collecting these).
It was super
cold (wind chill factor) so we sought refuge in Maccas to plan our walk and had
bulgogi burgers and sweet corn soup – quite delicious really. There was a super
cool mall and shopping streets so we set upon them and also found cool karaoke booths
(1000KRW for 10 songs) and Dad just had to insist we belt out a few tunes. Was a
lot of fun!
Later Mum went home early as it was too cold for her and she
had a headache and dad and the kids further explored the area.
