Rottnest Island, Western Australia, Australia
G,day All,

Today we are having a sort of relaxing tour it will be on a fast ferry to the island of Rottness, we leave Perth and sail down the swan river to its mouth at the town of Fremantle then we cross the Indian ocean to the Island of Rottness and have a bus tour around the island and then lunch and back home so will be a nice relaxed day and what a day we have for it not a cloud in the sky again still damn wish a cloud would appear, Perth has had no rain at all for over a month now and things are starting to dry out the daily temperatures have been over 32c each day an average of 35c is the predicted norm so a tad warm .

We met the Ferry at the Barrack street Ferry terminal and i got a look at the beast before we got aboard and a nice sleek boat it is can see it will handle the rough seas out in the ocean, the call to board was made so we made our way onto the boat and up to the top deck to find a nice place to sit. The back deck soon filled with people and off we went slowly down the river as not to create too much wake for the other boats an also to protect the foreshore from the bow wave, we were soon into Fremantle to pick up the Fremantle passengers an away we went the engine was throbbing as we powered across the ocean to Rottness Island this ride will take us roughly 30 minutes to traverse so we settled in for the ride and the view as we passed Container ships tied up at temporary moorings awaiting their turn to be escorted in to the Port and their goods unloaded and reloaded to continue their journey.

Soon the island harbour appeared and we disembarked and found the tour guide who will show as around the main settlement of the island before our bus ride, we walked around as the guide explained how Rottness was formed and built by the convicts mainly aboriginal's but had some white ones as well then she tried to find a Quokka for us to look at but explained that it was a bit warm for them now so most were hiding under trees as they were a shy sort of creature they look like a rat and when the Dutch sailors found this island back in the 17th century they called it Rottness as that means Rat in dutch so hence the name .

We were soon on the bus as he took us around the various sight into what used to be the army Barracks and is now a back packers lodge and then up to a couple of look outs over the ocean then we traversed the narrowest part of the island only 250 mts wide, then off to a light house and back to the town for lunch a lovely fish and chip meal was had and a couple of drinks as it was a tad hot. After lunch we waked around the town found a Quokka and too its photo cute little rat like things but move like a kangaroo they hop on their back legs but move around on the front legs, soon was time to head back to the Ferry and back to Perth we were delayed for a bit at Fremantle as the New Zealand Navy decided to visit and we had to wait for them to turn the war ship around so we could berth. then it was a trip back up the river and catch the bus home and feet up before dinner.

Tomorrow is a Perth day Yes Kay we will be seeing your beautiful city just have a walk around and take photos, so off to bed now and will see you all in the morning

Hoo Roo
Stewart and Nancy .

Hello All,

Tis I the most ecstatic Squirrel you will ever see, I found a Quokka and what a beaut little fokka he was he is the same size as me and man was i so pleased to have some one my height again on the trip as you know Stewart left the others home due to weight restrictions, yeah right if any one needs to go on a diet it is him man have you seen the size of his butt mind you i am not complaining as it adds padding for me when i am shoved into his pocket.

We are on an Island Called Rottness an as he explained it was named after the Dutch thought they had seen Rats on the island in fact i found out it was their rats that had escaped from the boat and made it ashore as i was reliably informed by an unnamed source, whose name shall remain guarded with me till I die hey Fokka mate.

Well we got on this boat that went at the speed of light well to me it did when we went out into the ocean you could feel the horse power throbbing through your legs as you watched the ocean fly past, we soon were on the island and this cute little tour guide was showing us around the island township and she was looking under trees as she went, I thought she was loopy till stew told me she was not a Quokka short of a fokka but was in fact looking for a Quokka, well we came across one but was very timid and shy and said "are you nuts i am not going out in the sun it is boiling an have you seen my nails they are shocking go away will you"  , I then deduced either it was a female or a very "happy" (gay) Quokka either way we left it in peace and went for a bus ride .

We had lunch at the pub and it was a noisy concern as there was a business convention of all the Managing directors of business's in Perth over on the island, I found it amusing that for one day when they could relax and have a bit of fun and a workshop that there were at least 40 of them on the phones back to their business still ironing out problems, to me that means they don't have very good staff or they don't trust them.

We were wandering around in 35c heat when Stew spotted movement and sure enough there was this little fur ball curled up in a standing position and it looked up at me and said g'day now you found me please fokka and go so i then found a new friend and he is awesome we are the same height and every thing, as we were departing the island Fokka followed us and i said can i can i can i keep him he followed us please please and stew looked at m like i was demented and said no u can't bring home any more mates the cupboard is nearly full what would Nessie Dave, Bill and Ben the Tasmanian devil think if you brought a stranger into the house so it stays here well before he could say "here" Fokka was with me in the bag and i told him if he behaved i would untie him and take the gag out, so he did that when he told me about the rat business and how badly they were being treated on the island and that he was now going to be a martyr for the cause to get free ice creams for all Quokka's .

The Boat took us back to the jetty where we disembarked and hoped on the blue cat for home once there Stew thru us on the bed and opens up the bag and as i had warned Fokka about the sudden light when it happens Jump out at stew and say "surprise" well i hid in the bottom of the bag anf when stew opened the bag and out popped Fokka shouting "Suprise " i had a good laugh as it is the same reaction he screams and this funny smell happens it is magic love it.

So now we have Fokka with us in my collection of friends and Stew was not happy about that oh well as we say in the stuffed toy world Tough nuts mate wear it, ok People time for bed you all sleep well and we shall chat some more bye bye for now.

Cheers Cedric
