Murano & Burano day trip

Venice, Veneto, Italy
After a bit of a sleep in Di, Urs & I decided to post some clothes home to make some room in our bags (still had Florence to go.....). Di & I shared a 10kg box & hoped for the best that it would make it home in one piece, the Italian post leaves a lot to be desired....It took a very long time to organise & we were not feeling confident all of our things would arrive home.
After the post office we were catching the vaporetta to the Murano (home of the famous glass ware). Di had never been & wanted to look around, Urs & I had both been years ago but tagged along anyway as we were keen to viisit the sister island of Burano. We had made tentative lunch arrangements with Gay & Sandra on Burano but our time at the post office soon through our scheduling way out. The girls were already on Burano as we were arriving at Murano.
As the ferry to Burano left from a different wharf, we had to walk through the back lanes & discivered a whole side to Murano that both Urs & I had not seen on previous trips!!!
Our water bus arrived so we boarded for the trip Burano that took longer than expected, about 35 minutes. Coming into Burano the view is so quaint, all the cottages & houses area painted varying bright colours. It really is so picturesque walking along the canals with the cute houses on either side. The island is known for its lace work & linen, something that was quite evident as every 2nd shop was full of tableware.

We found the girls just as they were finishing up lunch so decided to take their seats for a late lunch (it was almost 3pm by this stage) as they were very pleased with the food & service. The location was fabulous outside overlooking the canal.
After lunch we hit the shops, buying up jewellery made from Murano glass (it was cheaper than at Murano!!) & of course I had to buy some linen tableware. It was very reasonably priced & I was very happy with my purchase.
After lots of shopping, we realised it was getting late & our ferry ticket ran out at 7pm, the last water bus was at 6.50 so we set off for the wharf & only just made it.
Gay & Sandra alighted at San Marco to do some more sightseeing & to have dinner. The rest of us stayed on & made our way back to the hotel for drinks in the garden. It was Ursula's last night with us as she was leaving early the next morning to fly to Frankfurt to spend some time with her elderly aunt before meeting up with us on the flight ti Singapore.
