Oia & shopping trip to Fira

Oia, Cyclades, Greece
After a bit of a sleep in, we headed out to explore the lanes & walkways as there is no vehicle access on the cliff side other than the main road in front of the village, however there are donkey 'trains' that wader through down to the port & back up the trail.

After looking through some of the shops, which are mostly jewellery, clothes & souvenirs we took some pics, stopped for a coffee then found a nice accessories shop where we all bought scarves . As Di had very little in clothes & still no word on her bag whereabouts she asked the lady where to buy basics. Apparently there is no in Oia to buy underwear!!! One has to travel to Fira to the Hondas Centre, which it turns out is a department store.

By this stage Gay & Karon had stopped to buy jewellery so Di, Sandra, Urs & I decided to go to Fira.

The bus trip down gave us more fa views & was very interesting being on the side of the cliff with buses, cars, bikes & quad bikes all fighting for road space!!!!!

We had a great time in Fira, the shopping was better than Oia & much cheaper. Di stocked up on the basics, whilst the rest of us stocked up on clothes & jewellery that we really didn’t need.......

All the shopping made us hungry so we searched for the restaurant our friendly host, Stavros (a younger version of the previous nights Pannos) had told us about. Again we had great views over Fira harbour & the cruise ships, it is a very popular cruise day stopover.

With shopping & eating over we headed for the bus, it was like ‘peak hour’ leaving Fira & we were stuck in a traffic jam not moving anywhere for more than ½ hour. We were the lucky ones who had a seat. Many decided to get off the bus & walk back to Fira. Eventually we started moving, it turned out the hold up was because of the tight hairpin bends when 2 buses would meet one would have to back up so the other could manoeuvre around, took a lot of skill & courage as it was sheer cliff face on one side & it was a long long way down........

After arriving back in Oia we decided to have a night in as we all had bought wine, cheese & nibbles from the local supermarket. We set up in between 2 of the apartment courtyards, it was a fun night with lots of laughs until our friendly host Stavros asked us to keep the noise down as we were disturbing other guests........it was way past the bedtime for us old ducks anyway!!!
