Gozo, Comino & Blue Lagoon cruise

Comino, Malta
Today we were headed to Gozo an island north of Malta mainland & Comino, home of the famous blue lagoon.

We caught the bus to Sliema ferry wharf were we boarded our boat to head to Gozo . We cruised along the northern coast of Malta enjoying views of St Paul's islands & Mellieha. After arriving at Gozo we boarded the tourist bus for a tour of the island & stopped in the capital, Victoria (named after Queen Victoria in 1897, but still referred to by locals as Rabat).

After alighting from the bus we found a little restaurant in the cellar of a really old building with a nice courtyard. The restaurant was so cool & inviting after the heat outside.

Our host had been to Australia & had relo’s there too (as does just about everyone in Malta) so he chatted away & made excellent food & wine suggestions.

After lunch we had a quick look around Victoria / Rabat but it was way too hot so back to the bus to take us to the ferry for the crossing to Comino.

The Blue Lagoon was very beautiful but very crowded. So many boats, both tourists & locals . After docking at the 'wharf’....(it was no more than a few planks of wood that reached over to some rocks) we had to trek across what I imagined the moon surface to look like to reach the beach.

This was so jammed packed, it was impossible to find a spot as I was covered in deck chairs, that were for rent.....we found a tiny piece unoccupied sand & staked our claim. All 6 of us could not be there at the same time so we took it in turns minding the bags while some had a swim.

The water was so crystal clear & a brilliant blue, but cold or ‘refreshing’ as Gay said.......

Time was almost up so back to the ferry for the long trip back to Sliema, I think I slept most of the way.

That night it was drinks & nibbles in our apartment. A great way to end the day.
