Athens walking the city

Athens, Greece
When we were being driven around yesterday I spotted the flea markets which seemed to full of second-hand & antique shops. As both of my girls had asked for 'old' books to add to the décor of their rooms........I decided to head there. The other girls wanted to look at the markets which seemed to branch off from the flea market but were very touristy. So Di, Urs & I browsed the 2nd hand stores & found some interesting things. If it wasn’t for luggage weight constrictions I could have spent a fortune!!! Found amazing hat boxes & gorgeous vintage hats Di bought some old rusty keys that the seller claimed from an old farmhouse....but we have our doubts, but they looked authentic & were a good price. After wandering for a while we decided to head to the Plakka, an eclectic & now bit trendy green eatery area in Athens. We didn’t have a map so just followed lanes, tour groups & signs......we found a great busy café for a nice coffee then set out in the general direction of the Plakka where we all agreed we would meet for lunch.

Along the way we found some beautiful streets with very old houses, some restored some not & need of a lot of TLC but still quaint in their own way . Also stumbled upon Hadrian’s Library, well the remains on it. We learned about Hadrian in the AV documentary in the van the day before!!!

In one small street a lady was selling jewellery she made from cutlery. Di bought a unique piece made of forks, very clever & well made.

We found our way finally to the Plakka thinking the other girls would be long gone as it was early afternoon & well past lunch but we found them in the main square enjoying a glass of wine & delicious food.

The afternoon was spent shoe (& souvenir) then with a bottle or 3 of prosecco (between 5 of us) in the roof top bar. For dinner we decided to return to the interesting dining haven square behind our hotel for another pleasant evening of food & local music.
