The Oracle, Pythia, & the Temple of Apollo

Delphi, Central Greece, Greece
Delphi was home of the most important oracle of the classical Greek world, Pythia, and the Temple of Apollo, where the oracle presided. Delphi is located in a mountainous region about 75 miles west of Athen. The Bay of Corinth can be seen from Delphi. Ancient Greeks considered it to be the most beautiful place in the world and described it as the center, literally "naval", of the world. The temple is located on the south slope of Mount Parnassus and is surrounded by high cliffs. History tells us that thousands made the difficult journey to Delphi to seek guidance from Pythia, who spoke on behalf of the gods. Below is a link to a very interesting online article about the oracle of Delphi.

A little bit about our day:
Our original itinerary had us touring Athens on this day; however, once we had disembarked the ship, we boarded the bus and headed to Delphi. It was a beautiful drive and we were fascinated with the lovely ski resort village near Delphi that is situated on the mountain Parnassus. This was our first day with our Greece tour guide, James.
