Pátmos, Dodecanese, Greece
Patmos is a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea situated off the west coast of Turkey and the continent of Asia. Its population is about 3,000.

Patmos is mentioned in the Book of Revelation and is the place where the author, John the Apostle, was given a vision from Jesus and received his revelation in the cave of the Apocalypse .
Revelation 1:9-11 (NIV) John’s Vision of ChristI, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.”

From the ship, we rode in tender boats to the port of Patmos, from which we boarded a bus to make our way to St. John's Monastery - Grotto of the Apocalypse. Our group sang "Our God is Alive" in the cave of the Apocalypse so beautifully, others in the cave clapped and the tour guide asked if we were a choir group. On the way back to the port of Patmos, we sang the tour guide "We Love You with the Love of the Lord" and, in reply, she sang us a Greek song of endearing love. The excursion in Patmos was a wonderful and delightful experience for me .

According to Greek mythology, Patmos was an island at the bottom of the sea. During a visit to Caria, the mainland across the shore from Patmos, the goddess Artemis, daughter of Leto, met up with the moon goddess, Selene, at the shrine on Mount Latmos. Selene cast her light on the ocean to reveal the sunken island. Selene convinced Artemis to bring Patmos to the surface. Artemis solicited her brother Apollo's help to persuade Zeus to allow the island to rise to the surface. Zeus allowed the island to rise to the surface which gradually brought new life and inhabitants to the island. Those who settled on the island named it "Letois" in honor of Artemis.
