Monte Alban, Oaxaca, Mexico
Breakfast was enjoyed at Terranova overlooking the zocola. An American breakfast for 70 peso / NZ $ 6.60 / US $ 5.30 once the 10% tip or service charge was added.

Bags all packed and locked away in the hotel storage.

Then off at 9 am on our guided excursion of Monte Albán with a “local” Canadian Suzanne. She has been living here for 15 years and was very informative.

This holy city of the ancient Zapotecs is located 400 metres above the Oaxaca valley. There are many structures to explore around the Grand Plaza including numerous tombs, ceremonial altars, tunnels, pyramids and palaces, many decorated by glyphs, paintings and intricate carvings.

Monte Albán is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site. The site is located on a low mountainous range rising above the plain in the central section of the Valley of Oaxaca where the latter's northern Etla, eastern Tlacolula, and southern Zimatlán & Ocotlán (or Valle Grande) branches meet. The present-day state capital Oaxaca City is located approximately 9 km / 6 mi east of Monte Albán. Thanks Mr Wikipedia.
