Another free day in San Cristóbal de las Casas

San Cristobal de las Casas, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico
Up and out at 7.30 am for breakfast at Tulue just one block from the hotel. Tried Mexican today: Jugo de naranja, pan tostado, mantequilla, mermelada, 2 hueuos a la Mexicana rancheros with café for 55 pesos / NZ$ 5.20 / US$ 4.20.

This lack of wi fi should not bother me. But sitting in the lobby and it is cold with a draft coming in from outside so finding out that room 30 is free and it has wi fi in the room decided to move away from room B even though that was a much better room. In fact my fingers become cold and numb so it was certainly time to move and meant that I could work on my blog at nights.

It is a free day with most wanted to go on a shopping trip to buy jewellery and leather bags. So at 1 pm we left for a bite of lunch first. Tried a couple of restaurants but didn’t like them for various reasons so the group settled on Madre Tierra with its outdoor courtyard. Decided on a Teriyaki Burger for 45 peso / NZ $ 4.20 / US $ 3.40 plus a hot chocolate to warm me up.

Still as cold as yesterday. Loaded a temperature app and it said 13 C. Felt colder than that. I had on again a cotton, 2 layers of merino and my light fleece jacket. Perhaps I should have brought with me a heavier weight merino long sleeve top?

After what turned out to be a 2 hour lunch, it was across the road to the Mercado de Dulces y Artesanal for a look at the colourful pastries.

Shopping time so first up was into 2 stores selling amber which several of the girls did purchase.

Next door was “O la la” so a takeaway latte for 20 peso / NZ 1.90 / US 1.50 was certainly in order.

Up into the outdoor markets by the Templo del Cerrillo for more retail therapy for some.
Meeting the artist who made an item is important to me. Yesterday I saw these leather painted wall hangings and today decided to part with 200 peso / NZ $ 18.80 / US $ 15.20 for one. This is my Mexico souvenir I hope! Yes, it has significant being the Aztec calendar.

Back towards the hotel and open were both the Templo del Cerrillo and main Templo Catedral. Both were poorly lit so thankfully there is not that much camera shake with these hand held pictures.

Back to my room and time to get this blog written up closer to the present.

Dinner at 7.30 pm at Miura. The House Tradition for 205 peso / NZ $ 19 / US $ 16 was an all you can eat salad bar / 2 soup selection plus meat. There was five cuts that one had to eat: New York, rib eye, top sirlion, beef rib eye and T bone (which they had run out of) but we could have chosen any other meat again … and if that was enough you can have some more (which I did not!).
