A time to dye in Skye

Glendale, Scotland, United Kingdom
From Australia, and with the help of Jane, I organised a small textile workshop (Shibori) to be held in the Glendale Community Centre.

Laden with silk and dyes and beating heart, I forayed forth .

The photos tell it all!

At the appointed time six Glendale residents arrived at the hall - five women and one man. Grey/brown coats, scarves and hats were removed and carefully stored. There was an air of uncertainty.

However, with the inspiration of Omar Khyyam -

"Awake, for morning in the bowl of night,
Has flung the stone that sets the stars to flight."

All were soon involved in binding, knotting and folding! Much wry comment was made about the emerging sculptural forms.........and there was considerable scepticism at the necessity to completely flood, yes completely flood, the fabric with dye.........and there was general shock when the creations were tossed into the microwave for two minutes!

Tentatively, the hot and steaming knots were undone. Fear was tangible! A pervading atmosphere of gloom and defeat!

"I've ruined your silk" moaned someone . "This is a disaster" groaned another!

And then - the moment of truth.........as every participant unravelled a highly patterned......vividly coloured and .....most beautiful scarf!

Sheer delight......smiles.....and sparkling eyes!

Buoyed by the sheer pleasure of success.......everyone agreed to........an individual photo.....and a group photo.

The scarves sparkled like jewels against the grey winter landscape!

A lovely morning!

A lovely way to meet people!

A lovely way to contribute to the Glendale Community!
