Skye - " A 50-mile-long patchwork of velvet moors, jagged mountains, sparkling lochs and towering sea cliffs." We continue our explorations!

We join Clayton in Lower Breakish - south and very close to the Skye Bridge . The countryside is undulating and moor-like. We pass close to the superb Cuillin Hills.

Clayton's cottage is a delight with every mod-con imaginable! After 6 Fasach he is smiling! He cooks a superb three course dinner in Master Chef style - delicious!

We traverse the Sleat Peninsula -somewhat underwhelming in comparison to all that we have seen and experienced. We find Knock Castle - an isolated ruin on a small headland.

The Nicholson's of Skye were Brocairs - badger hunters. According to Sam, I am the only Brocair in Glendale and I would be known as Rosemary Brocair if I remained here! They were so good at their craft - there are no more badgers in Skye! I have been looking everywhere for any reference to badgers and was delighted to find something be it Banksy style - see photo.

The mecca of tide-wrack on Skye is Talisker Beach. In summer the shire regularly cleans the beach. 

The return walk is 7 kilometres but worth it just to witness the volume of industrial and
nautical rubbish washed up onto an enormous beach of grey tumbled rocks - big and little .
It is most sobering! 

I am keen to find something special! And I do! 

Amongst the tons of nautical and industrial rubbish - the remnant of a child's plastic doll. Who? When? Why?

Talisker Beach - visually so beautiful yet so deceptive as the water from the hills runs under the rocks and out to sea over black, black sand.

Talisker Distillery (the only distillery on Skye) does not disappoint and their tastings are most generous! We select a bottle of 'Talisker Storm' - a single malt whisky with "A sweet warmth and briny, peppery finish that are the symbol of the TALISKER character." Superb!
