Hither and yon......

The fishing saga continues .....and still nothing!

We meet Sam's younger brother Mark. He is a delight and we enjoy a delicious meal at The Old Schoolhouse Restaurant in Dunvegan. Family history/folklore is recounted and there is much laughter. Unfortunately, Jane is not able to join us. A happy evening - thank you Sam.

Later in the week we visit Mark in Portree- his recently completed home, in traditional style, is spacious and elegant. It has magnificent views out to the Cuillin Hills. We are treated to a delicious traditional bacon roll followed by scones and local strawberry jam. Thank you Mark.

At Portree we see a game of Shinty. A rough yet skilful game of hockey.

'Shinty is steeped in Celtic tradition and has its roots deep in the mists of time when it was thought that it was played as training in preparation for combat. Games involving up to a hundred men were common .' - brochure.

On Sunday we revisit Edinbane Inn for another session of superb Celtic music. With a music festival in Portree there is overflow - pipes, flute, violins, guitar, penny whistle..........and three members of The Peat Bog Faeries - a major Scottish group! Bliss!

Sadly, and all too soon, it is time to farewell Andrew. He catches the bus in Portree. It has been most special to have him share Skye with us.

We foray unto Uig for a second look at the Grand Designs home that we previously belittled. Perhaps we have been too harsh! While very unusual, it is very well crafted. And the view from the coffee shop / studio is as good as the carrot and banana cake is! Scrumptious!
