Augusta, Western Australia, Australia
7th - 9th December

Running out of superlatives here, WA does that to you! So, Augusta is just....great! Sitting at the bottom of the Margret River Region, on the eastern reach of the Leeuwin Peninsula and bordered on its eastern side by the Blackwood River. Augusta is a seaside holiday town of the old ilk, picturesque, casual with plenty of activities and friendly natives.

But? This is summer? Whilst it's 26c in Perth, and the rest of the state basks in plus 35c, here we are in the south western corner with overcast days, an Antarctic wind blowing from the south and a top daytime temperature of 21c, down to 8c at night! Not happy people!

We book into the council owned Turner Caravan Park situated along the Blackwood River, get a huge campsite and settle in for 3 days. The first afternoon though is given to the Lotus Inn, a thorough exterior wash then a polish. After 8 rough months for our faithful Lotus, well she deserves a rubdown, and doesn't she show it, standing there glistening and proud.

Augusta is all about holidays and relaxing. Number one activity is fishing, followed by fishing. Just west is the Leeuwin Lighthouse, which we have already done, a long and rugged coast with caves and covered in Karri forest. Evi takes in some walks along the river and along the coast road, and we both hook into the fishing. On our first day Roscoe hooks a beauty which he plays for about 5 minutes with the fish walking him up and down the beach as it runs and gives, unfortunately the fish found a rock shelf and snapped the line, damn!

A few drives just to look around seem to fill in the day along with the fishing and just catching up reading, and writing this blog. Augusta is a real holiday town indeed!
