THE VILLAGE OF METSOVO - (Greece)

Metsovo, Epirus, Greece
METSOVO

It is about 550 kms from Athens .

This beautiful village reminds me of Swiss. It has beautiful mountains, nature and it is located in the border of Albania. It snows a lot in winter time, and it surrounded by hight mountains.

I was disappointed however to be honest, because I expected to see many old people wearing their traditional costumes, as the man I spotted sitting outside his shop and asked him to have a photo with me. I expected to see many more sitting in the square and discuss with friends but it seems that I was unlucky.

Not many old men wear their traditional costumes nowadays.

When I saw the photo that I took with this old man I remember asking him why he was not smiling at all. The answer was that this is how he is.

He does not smile at all, but he seems so sure of himself and proud of being from Epirus.

Metsovo is a remarkable village and we stayed there for about two and a half hours. We had the chance to visit Tositsa Museum and then walk in the square of the village.

The village is known for its nice cheese and butter, and it has many souvenir shops.

The buildings really remind me of Swiss, and it is also very popular in winter for ski and all sorts of winter sports.

Beautiful photos! I know the village well -everyone is bilingual, speaking Vlachika and Greek. I have been there about 12 times, always speaking in Vlachika to the Metsovites. Thank you. Efharisto poli.
