Oxford street and Selfridges store

In a big yard we found accidentally this nice market while walking in the streets of London . There are many interesting pieces for collectors but if you are a traveller you just see and leave!

We got on the Tube to get to Oxford street and go to Selfridges store and there were one or two people who heard us talking in Greek and wanted to help.

Unfortunately we were given wrong directions although the ones we had were the right ones, but the girls insisted that the way they showed us was the best.

So we got off at Regent street and we were trying to get to Oxford.

We were walking and walking, and every now and then we were asking about Oxford street. What we got was "  It is another 5 or 8 minutes walk"

Every person we asked was saying the same.

Then when reaching Oxford and trying to find Selfridges, we heard the same words . “Just 5 minutes you will find it on the right hand side”- it can’t be missed”.

If we knew we would have got in the tube and be driven there, but these 5 minutes kept us going, and going.- Probably we kept on going because the day was more than wonderful!

The funny thing of all was when we reached Selfridges store it was so expensive that we left after 15 minutes of just walking and checking on prices there.

When I asked Maro about the people telling us “ it’s just5 minute walk” she said that English people don’t count the minutes, it is just to tell you that it is not very far, but they don’t really mean that it is a 5 minute walk.

So next time I visit London, I will know for sure what this expression means.

I wonder if people in other countries use this expression also, but don’t really mean the time. In Greece at least we simply tell you exactly how much time you need to get to a spot.
