CORRALEJO CENTRE AND BEACHES

Corralejo is a beautiful port in the north of Fuerteventura, and especially the area around the harbour where there are many restaurants and nice sandy beaches .

From the port here one can have access to Los Lobos Island which is very near, and Lanzarotte Island as well.

Corralejo is mostly preferred by families – most of the tourists here are British, and Spanish. Tourism here is not overwhelming and there's a chilled out vibe in this pretty area.

In this city the quality of sandy beaches are promising. The kind of beaches we all long to swim in - , the beaches that we see in movies. One popular beach is along Avenida Grandes Playas, with excellent resorts. In this area there is tide and swimmers should be careful, however the central beaches of the city are very calm and are preferred by families with children.                                                                                                                               I realized that most swimmers enjoyed walking on these beautiful beaches instead of swimming . There were not many people swimming, between 9 -11am, and if they were in the water, they were afraid to swim further in, even though the water had crystal clear turquoise colour.

To be honest, although these beaches are beautiful, they cannot be compared to our Greek beaches here in Greece or Cyprus. There is always the thread of sharks since it is the Atlantic Ocean, and the water in the morning is quite cold. Out in the open ocean there is tide and people should always be alert.

There are red or yellow flags to show how dangerous the area is, but most of the time there is the flag with the red colour on. This means that people can swim but in their own risk.

Most people enjoy swimming after 12.pm when the sea is a bit warmer.

I loved walking in the coast near the port, and the buildings and architecture in this area reminded me of places I visited in Havana. People – I mean locals are very friendly, but don’t know much English. With the little Spanish that I know, the English and Greek, I could understand. Besides in Greek we have many identical words.
