The last of Sweden

Gothenburg, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden
Leaving Fjallbacka we travelled to some more of the fishing towns along this west coast of Southern Sweden. We couldn't follow the coastline, but rather needed to follow a more inland road and make little journeys in and out to each town. That's the way the roads are here.

The landscape is very rocky. Smooth pink granite rock formations dominate the land, while the sea is dotted with thousands of islands large and small. While each town has a its own charm, Smogen is memorable. Houses are perched on massive rocks that tower over the water, while boat and beach houses line the shore. While the town itself is one of white houses, the traditional red and other bright colours are used on buildings near the water.

From here we drove to Gothenburg, our last stop in Sweden before we travel back to Denmark. Nice city, lots of cobbled (ouch) streets that are closed to traffic. Walked to a large park last night. Very steep paths but beautiful cool greenery. Also an animal park which was interesting. How tall are moose!

Today explored the town on a beautiful sunny day. In the old Haga area of town we stopped for coffee at Cafe Husaren, renowned for its Hagabulle. These are similar to Cinnamon Scrolls but have large aniseed flavoured sprinkles on top. And they are plate-size. Had a fabulous coffee. First from a coffee machine in ages.

Tonight last night in Sweden. Tomorrow start early to drive to Helsingborg to catch the ferry to Helsingor in Denmark. Our Scandinavia journey is nearly complete. Only Iceland remains.
