Dublin is Grand.....

Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland
We left London in one of those unique English cabs..what fun.

Took a train to the west coast of England and then boarded a ferry for Dublin . We've been on ferries in Seattle before, but this was beyond awesome. Had many floors, tons and tons of comfortable chairs and couches, movie theater, a big play room for kids, lots of places to eat and a huge store. It was a 3 hr tour (really) and a very smooth ride.

Last night had an Irish dinner at O'Shea's pub. The food is an acquired taste. Love the people, the dialects...but the food...not so much.

Dublin is a very old city with very few modern buildings. Pubs are everywhere and they all serve the local beer "Guinness". Dave and I went to the Guinness Storehouse and were very impressed. Arthur Guinness built his brewery in 1759 and signed a 9000 yr lease on the land. He married 2 yrs later and his wife gave birth to 21 children. The mortality rate during that time was 50% and 11 of their children died.

After touring, we went up to the Gravity floor on the top that had a 360 degree view of Dublin . Everyone was given a free pint of Guinness beer and since I don't like beer (make mine wine) I gave mine to Dave. We met some fun Irish ladies and they also gave Dave a pint of beer. Good thing he only took a few sips of theirs or it could have been ugly. Lol.

For all you Doyle ancestors, Dublin has a DOYLE's Bar. Went inside to have dinner and because today was a bank holiday, they don't serve food. So we went to Hard Rock Cafe and had American food.

Tomorrow we leave Dublin for 3 days, rent a car and explore Southern Ireland. It should prove to be an interesting adventure as the steering wheel will be on the right hand side of the car and we have to drive on the left hand side of the road.

Be back in Dublin in 3 days.....

Hmmmm ... so you didn't like the Irish food, eh? A colleague here at UCSD who has spent a number of years in Ireland (as well as in Chicago) mentioned that your sense of Irish food is what Chicagoans think when they get "Pizza" in San Diego! LOL
