Amalfi, Italy

Amalfi Coast, Campania, Italy
This morning we caught a bus from Positano to Amalfi. Ok...we thought drivers in Rome were crazy. Our bus driver deserves our undying gratitude that our bus never went over the edge..and we came close a few times. Since the bus was overcrowded, we had to stand in the aisle and hold on for dear life. The coastal road is very, very windy, narrow and every time he was coming upon a curve he had to honk in case someone was heading towards us. But, he was a pro...never hit a vehicle, a pedestrian or a wall that kept us from going into the Mediterranean. Don't get me wrong. I love being in the Mediterranean....but not that way.

Thank you ...thank you.. thank you. After this, I will NEVER worry when on the California coast highway.

After checking into into our hotel room and my shaking finally stopped..lol... we walked down to Amalfi (about 1 mile), Had dinner in town, walked around Amalfi and then headed back.

Dave and I both agree that we like Positano so much more than Amalfi. In Positano, from the top of Positano to the beach was so quaint, beautiful old buildings, amazing shops and restaurants. It was just beautiful, clean and upscale. Dave liked Positano so much that he thought it would be great to open up a hotel there and have our family move there with us. He really likes Positano. We both do.

We felt Amalfi was not as beautiful as it was from the ferry. It just seemed like a tourist trap.

The next morning we visited some with Thomas, the owner of the hotel . He asked Dave if he slept with his hat on since he always wears it,,, lol. What a sweet man. Always smiling. He is 80 yrs young, left home when he was 14 to work because they were poor. He bought this hotel with family 10 yrs ago because as he says "I have 5 grandchildren and need money for Christmas!" A man that I'm sure is much beloved!

One of of the many things we have enjoyed on this trip was talking with the owners and help of the different B&B's, hotels and restaurants. Finding out about them and just conversing with them. Everyone so unique, friendly and down to earth.

We'll be in Amalfi for 2 days, spending a lot of it just sitting on our balcony overlooking the Mediterranean or in the lobby visiting with Thomas. After we leave Amalfi, we'll also be leaving the Mediterranean. From Nice, to Positano and now Amalfi the colors of the Mediterranean are the most beautiful I have ever seen. They are turquoise and deep blue and just beyond beautiful. We will miss the Italian coast.

After Amalfi we'll be heading to Siena, Italy.

Ciao Mediterranean!!

You are meeting some fun people along the way - that's great. Like the little villages. Missed you at Lori's today. Enjoyed meeting Holly's sister-in-law. The usual yummy lunch. So glad you are having such a great time.
