SULLIVAN BAY
Some of the lava flow at Sullivan Bay was created as recently as 30 years eruption when the lava flowed eastward
. Edges of the lava advance in tongues, hot magma raced ahead, flowing around and eventually engulfing any obstacles in its way. The extreme heat created by the flow would cause obstacles like trees to evaporate, leaving behind only an imprint of the life which once existed. This has left many different shapes when the magma hardened there is no life on this island.
So up again at 6am for an 1.5 hour walk on this island - it was crazy the shapes of were the magma hardened was really cool and actually more interesting than we thought it would be - cool colours of minerals in some of it too - this was tough walking and typically at the last bit before getting on the boat I rushed to get a pic of a crab and slid and fell - lucky it wasn't on all the jaggy parts I just got a few scrapes on my hand - the crab ran away !!!
Back on board for breakky and some free time again before our next snorkel.
That morning we did a snorkle off the beach where we seen more stingrays and a penguin going a lightening speed past us - still no shark though!
AFTERNOON - RABIDA ISLAND
Rabida Island is one of the most colorful and volcanically varied islands in the archipelago and a great snorkeling site
. Its famous red coloured sandy beach and stunning lookouts provide wonderful landscapes. The island is a birdwatcher’s delight. Some of the rarest species are in abundance, such as nine varieties of finches, Large-billed Flycatchers, Galapagos Hawks and Brown Pelicans.
For those that were shark hunting on the snorkel jumped back in the Zodiac boat which took us round the shoreline where the guide knew of shark caves, the waves here were pretty hectic and me these days being brave is now snorkelling without a life jacket but soon as we dropped in off the boat the waves seemed even bigger, fortunately I have my personal lifeguard Marc and once you stuck ur head in the water it wasnt so bad, the current was strong though and eventually the guide said shark was spotted but we had to swim against the current for what seemed like forever - big waves my rubbish swimming skills it was not good. Next min all you hear is "shark" face in the water and at last there he was a black tip reef shark amongst us WOO HOO it was so cool finally I got to see my shark, the rest of the snorkle we headed back to the beach where we were so lucky we saw either the same or another shark right below me we followed it for a bit but then it was off - then we say an eagle ray - SUCCESSFUL SNORKEL :-))
We were chilling out before dinner up on top of the boat when our guide said there is a manta ray - we ran to the side of the boat and there it was right on the surface we got to watch it for a a good 20 secs before it disappeared it was easy 2-3m wide - sooooo amazingly graceful - unfortunately the camera wasn't there :-(
LAST NIGHT ON OUR BOAT :-(
This is the last night on the boat - we were gutted it just wasnt long enough - had a lovely dinner with complimentary wine, we sat up on top of the boat after dinner it was so relaxing laying on the sun loungers looking up at the millions of stars in the sky - we were ables to see Mars as its in our area right now (Marc has iphone app that tells you whats what in the sky)
Tomorrow 6am breakfast then we are off for our 2 scuba dives at 7am - to say that I am now shitting it would be putting it mildly, most people might be scared of the sharks for me its the flaming water and all I want to see is sharks haha !!!!
Some videos to see below too :-)
