Benarkin to Bowenville Reserve

Wainui, Queensland, Australia
It was 8 • inside the caravan this morning and we hadn't bothered to remove the outside cap from the gas heater, so we stayed snuggled in bed until 8am. We only had about 80 ks to drive so there was no need for an early start.

We stopped at Kulpi for a look at the old FJ Holden parked behind the pub, then on to Bowenville to chat with some other Spinifex owners - it's not very common to see another one on our travels so we make sure we stop when we do .

Then it was on to Bowenville Reserve at Wainui, where there is a huge beautiful area beside Oakey Creek to camp for free, and most importantly, there is good television reception! as the first State of Origin is on tomorrow night.

The town of Bowenville was originally settled here on the banks of Oakey Creek, on the long waterhole. It was a Cobb and Co staging post as well, but the townsfolk, probably the women, of became sick of cleaning up after constant flooding so the town was moved in 1902 to where it is situated today.

Later on we went walking and circumnavigated the huge area, then sat beside the creek to enjoy the tranquility before heading back to prepare tea - sausages on the Webber with mashed potatoes and broccoli.
