1481. Back to the Aoufous Valley

Arbid, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco
5 hrs, 5.0 kms

Then next day I have another very clear objective: catch a collective taxi to Aoufous, and hike back to Arfoud . If I do that, I will cross the 100 kilometer mark, this creating a Superhike. Originally I'd planned to continue on to Errachidia—which would be nice, since it’s the regional capital. But now I don’t really feel that will be necessary. I’m not going to push my luck and risk not getting back to Casablanca on time, considering the risk of snow in the mountains. So today could be the end of my East Desert Superhike.

It doesn’t take me long to reach Aoufous where I get an omelette for breakfast before starting on my way. It’s about a 30 kilometer walk, so I need to keep a decent pace—but I don’t need to rush it either.

Luckily the first section of my hike will be through the south end of the Aoufous Oasis, so it’s not long before I’m off the sun beaten highway, and taking a very pleasant shady stroll through the orchard and farm plots. When I spot a village I head back towards the road to explore it—then back into the oasis again.
