Gibbs, Saint Peter, Barbados
3 hrs, 3 kms

Down at the beach I try to hike north as far as I can, over the rocky areas that separate different beach sections . Here I get my first glimpse of the estates of the "Super-rich" who vacation here as we. It looks like an ancient Roman palace with a beautiful garden. I wonder who this might belong to...

Back on the main road, the contrast is quite stark... on the left, vast walled in estates... on the right... quite basic wooden houses. Lucky for me, there are eateries catering to the lower end of the social ladder, and I find a nice takeaway place which serves rice, chicken and coleslaw--not the colorful variety of food like I'd get on the other islands--but it'll do.

Finally I reach what I suppose will count as another town, with another beach strip crowded with tourists. I guess it does feel good to see lots of tourists--simply because I know that Barbados needs them to survive.
