Dennery, International
5 hrs, 2.1 kms
Day Totals: 16 hrs, 21 .3 kms

I'd been planning to continue hiking up the eastern coast, but I've now lost interest in doing so. I have a better idea: hike from Castries to Soufriere, creating a Superhike on that side as well. Towns might be spaced far apart, but at least you have beautiful scenery along the way.

But I might as well make a quick stop at one more province on this side, so I hop on a van up to Dennery, another coastal town.

As the road follows the top of a high coastal cliff, we pass a lookout point where tourist buses stop to take pictures of the Dennery bay with an island with a cool rock formation in the middle.

None of those tourists actually go down to the town itself, and the government doesn't want them to. Once again, the water is absolutely filthy and covered with rotting seaweed. There are fishing boats here--and makes me wonder if it's such a good idea to eat the fish here.

So... the idea is... have the tourists come and take pictures from far away... so they don't see what the conditions are really like here in this town? This is bothering me more and more.

I'm done exploring this side of the island. A part of me wishes I hadn't seen this side--only the nicely maintained Caribbean side. But I know it was important to see the real picture of what's going on in this country

Now I'm heading back to Vieux Fort and from there back to Soufriere. Tomorrow will be another day.
