1986 Following a Trail

Friday, February 20, 2015
Saint Margarets, Saint John, Barbados
3 hrs, 6.2 kms
Day Totals: 16 hrs, 24 .2 kms

The road veers away from the coastline, but there's a trail that doesn't. I figure it can't hurt to follow the trail--maybe it will reconnect with the road later on.

Around a bend, once you can't see any signs of civilization, you can easily convinced yourself you're exploring an undiscovered, windswept coast. Few trees on this side, probably due to the harsh weather and storms, giving this area a raw, untamed feel. I would almost say it feels a bit like rural Scotland.

Finally the path leads me to another village... on to another road that I follow over the ridge, where I gaze back for one last goodbye to this beautiful corner of the world... then down to the main road, where I catch a bus back "home".

On the bus ride home (now about 9 pm) I overhear two nervous backpackers asking around nervously if anyone knew of a guesthouse they could stay at. Yep, I know that feeling. I should help them out, just like a random stranger helped me out. I've got two beds at my place so I tell them they can come sleep in the other one. Backpackers need to look out for each other sometimes...
