Just because....... I don't like our trip going cross country on the blog map, I am doing a blog from our morning tea stop this morning. We stopped at Cobar for the night on our way to Tamworth. We had intended to free camp but it was so hot and dry, that we decided to continue on. And it was a good decision. It was good to reminisce of the early weeks of our trip and the excitement of going to Tamworth. There has been a bit of that happening this morning. We noticed that the hotel with the 'Blue Tooey' can of beer is still there. We heard a few months ago of a fire in Cobar and a hotel was burnt to the ground. Unfortunately a fireman lost his life fighting the blaze. The 'Kidman Way' was a very good road to travel to Cobar. It is 160 kms from Bourke to Cobar on this highway. There was lots of road kill on the road, so it would not be a good road to travel at night. There were little wild pigs, goats, emus and of course plenty of kangaroos to be seen. It was very nice country. Mostly red loam that could be very productive if it only rained out here! The natural bush is very healthy and the small wattles under the tall timber were flowering. We fuelled up at Cobar and had our morning tea in a rest area just out of town. There were inquisitive starlings (Pete thinks that is what they were) hoping to get a few tit bits. The natural bush was in full flower. There was a really nice bush with a type of pea flower. I just had to get the camera out again.
Once we left Cobar we were back travelling on the Barrier Highway! Wilcannia is 260 kms further on, so it will be a late lunch if we do go that far. 6 photos
