Whyalla is the town we are in today, and will be on 'Sophie Jules' 10th Birthday.  The third October birthday for a Batten granddaughter.   We will be home in a couple of weeks Soph and your birthday present has been purchased and will be all ready for you when we get home.

Whyalla is only 80 kilometres from Port Augusta, on the Eyre Peninsula.  It is known as the 'Steel Town' and the entry sign says it is where 'The Outback Meets the Sea'.  We are staying at the Discovery Caravan park, which is a Top Tourist Park, and we are parked right on the beach overlooking Spencer Gulf.  The temperature got to 37 degrees this afternoon in the van.  It was time to turn the airconditioner on again to cool it down!  The weather is bizarre! Two days ago it was freezing and the airconditoner was on for warming.  In a week we have gone from cooling, to warming, to cooling!  No wonder Peter has had a cold and one has been niggling me! 

We went back to the 'Wadlatta Outback Centre' before we left Port Augusta.  As part of your entrance fee you are given a pass to return as many times as you like within the twelve month period.  It was so good to go through the centre again after 'Travelling Oz' for the last 10 months.  So much meant a lot lot more!  Especially the information on Australia's four explorer's Eyre, Sturt, Stuart and Giles.  We have read so much about them on our travels and seen so much of the 'Outback'.

The rest of the day has been a 'Lazy Day'!  Enjoying the activity on the water behind us.  We have had the binoculars on the ships waiting out in the Gulf.  Not sure if they are waiting for the barge to unload or load them.  We haven't worked out what has been going on yet.  There has been kayaking, jet skiing and plenty of people walking for hundreds of metres in knee deep water, fishing for razor fish.
