On the road again this morning after Pete helping a guy from Tassy with a hose fitting and spending time chatting again with the relief manager of the park. He had rung his son last night after we had spoken with him yesterday, regarding the yield of crops in the area. His son is an agronomist. He had the update on harvest yeilds! Lentils are yielding about 8 bags, so that is okay. The price for them is $800.00 a tonne. Wheat is yeilding about 5 tonne to the hectare. At about 9.20am we set off up the 'Flinders Highway' again, heading to Ceduna. We decided to go into 'Venus Bay' for a look. It is about 65 kms from Elliston. We were impressed and it has become our 'Top Pick', since travelling Eyre Peninsula. It is the first time we have actually seen any fish in the water. When we were out on the jetty, we could see Tommy Ruff (fancy name for Herring) and King George Whiting swimming around. Also saw a big starfish. The jetty is very old. It still had the railway tracks going out there and the fella's working on one of the prawn trawlers were using the rail to wheel stuff out there.
There were a number of people fishing. Some on the jetty, others with their chairs on the beach and some standing out in the water. Dinghys went out and anchored near the entrance to the inlet. We felt it was a spot that was probably worth another visit sometime. The caravan park was on the edge of the inlet and it was only a short walk to the jetty. As we drove out we noticed a sign saying 'Boats for Hire' at the caravan park. A short drive up Bay Street, takes you to the cliff tops of the Great Australian Bight. 'Venus Bay' ticked a number of boxes for us. Once back on Flinders Highway it was only a few kms, and the road to the right went across to Wudinna. It would be about 50 kms further to go via Venus Bay to Port Augusta. We are thinking our next trip east, could be via Venus Bay.The views up on the cliff tops of the 'Great Australian Bight' were once again fantastic and it is only a short walk up the street. What a walk in the morning! Up the gradual rise to those views!
We are now back in Ceduna for a couple of nights. Then we head off, back across the 'Iconic Crossing' to the West. And yay!! There was a magic sunset tonight over the ocean to the west! I think the last time we saw the sun set over the ocean was in Geraldton on the 8th June. 8 photos
