The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands
Camperpark Den Haag N 52.0528, E 04.3801
Our first stop today was about 20km north of Holland and the Zaans Schans windmill town. Whilst it’s a relatively new development specifically with tourists in mind it really does give a great insight into the working windmills from days gone by. We went inside the woodworking one which was brilliant, there was also a couple of food oil mills. As well as mills there were quite a few traditional factory style shops, we went to the cheese demo and tried a good number of cheeses and then the clog shop where we watched a basic clog be machined in about 30 seconds. Bizarrely all the wood seems to get stored in water and dried after it has been machined, very different to the UK.
We then headed south towards The Haag to a camp ready for our next adventure. On arrival it wasn’t quite what we expected in that it was a long way from both The Haag and any transport to get us into town.
For the afternoon we had a walk into the town and did a bit of shopping whilst we decided what to do about our visit.
