Burns Lake, British Columbia, Canada
FRASER LAKE – BURNS LAKE
Ok we came here for coffee and some lake view – but at one time this was actually the spot where Fort Fraser was (yes it was also established by Simon Fraser in 1806) – they say the breeze here keeps the mosquitos at bay.
Dumping in Fraser Lake
We read in the app that you have free dumping here and they do near the Visitor info – ok we were also part of the nice people who made a donation. Good job camper – we dumped 5 days ago!!!
Gine goes up on Mouse Mountain
Gine read about Mouse Mountain, and that it is only a half hour up – Paul said I’m not interested in walking up for a half hour I see plenty of beautiful things and views – so he and Mandy set up (that means Mandy was not so happy with Paul, as she started to wonder off and was not listening to him at all… and then when Paul carried her back she was hissing at him: I guess that meant it’s either Mandy’s way of the highway) – Gine went up the steep hill and got her workout with some views on the surrounding area – but it was not really that mindblowing.
2nd Coffee at Fraser Lake Campground
Gine said she needs now a break and we will have coffee at the Fraser Lake Campground and then we can decided what we want to do: stay here or drive on the burns Lake. By the way Fraser Lake is also the town where the booklet #1 attraction is to visit the playground – I mean it is at the lake near the Campground and it is nice – but if that is your only tourist attraction!!!! A nice coffee with a view – and yes there are so many beautiful lakes here we can’t even stop at everyone or visit every PP or Rec Site, a bit wondering along the shoreline and we headed on highway 16
This is also the White Swan Capital of the world – but they are only here in winter
And the door won’t close
Ok so first some Info on Hwy 16 where we are driving on: it is also called the Highway of tears:
  • Hwy 16 goes all the way from Winnipeg to Masset on Haida Gway and named after the fur trader Peirre Bostonais who had yellow treadks in his hair and was called Tete Jaune = Yellowhead
  • The part between Prince George and Prince Rupert where we are driving is a 725km stretch and here happened a lot of murders since the 1970s especially a very high number of indigenous women: as of August 2020 over 50 – several were never found
As we drive along the Highway – someone drove by and waved to us, we stopped and our camper door was open. So big Question who’s fault was it??? Gine pushed it closed and it locked – which was weird as it was on the lock position. Paul didn’t got it when Gine said it closed when it was locked. So we continue on and as we look in the mirror the door is open. We stopped and Paul came out too to check if Gine really closed it proper, Gine closed Paul checked and we continued on. When we looked in the mirror the door was open: we went out and then thought maybe something was stuck – so all clean: we unlocked the door and closed it correctly and locked it: we both checked. And we continue on and look in the mirror and the door is open: no we get really confused as when you lock the door you can rattle and try as much as you want and it won’t open – and as soon as we drive it opens????? Do we have some ghosts????? This time we close and we lock and then put our door handle the other way so it is in front of the door: once we arrive at the campsite we check and see there the door is open it only didn’t flap open because of the door handle? Now how can this happen. We went inside and tried everything from lifting and pushing and we are unable to open that door and still it opens during driving.
Pizza at Burns Lake Village Campground
As we drive into Burns Lake Gine said: you know if we are on the village campground we are close to town, maybe after that door-stress we should get a relaxing pizza!! Paul was super excited about Pizza and as soon as we arrived (by the way we arrived way after scheduled time – I guess the open door made us slower) we checked and see there they have a pizza place, we call and order and pick it up: and you know you are in a big town when you walk into the pizza place and you get greated with hello I’m sure you want to pick up the pizza for Paul. Our first Movie and a Pizza in the camper!!!
And we see another rainbow
We did had to go out and check out our spot and I think we got the best campsite closest to the lake and as we wonder along we discover that there is a rainbow over the lake – how beautiful. And on our campsite is a Mercedes A Class RV from Germany -now wonder it looks a bit different.
This morning we woke up to beautiful sunshine – how awesome is it to sit at the lake with the coffee and in a T-shirt… you don’t want to start the day. Then our neighbor started to talk with Gine and he talked and talked – so breakfast waited…. By then the clouds came in and we decided shopping, stop at Petro Canada not only do we need gas but also clean windows – no clue what Paul is doing but our windshield is full of dead flies.
And then we are finally on the road behind several RV’s…. and slowly we pass them all until we hit:
