KINASKEN LAKE PP
Breakfast with Glacier views
After coffee and looking over the calm lake and trying not to get too many of those tiny flies inside our RV we decided to drive to the Glacier for breakfast. And on the way we are again. Along this stretch you have those huge rock walls with lots and lots of huge waterfalls – they may not look that big, because they are so far away, but they are spectacular – we did stop a few times and checked them out: they call it the Wall of tears – it is truly gorgeous.
When we arrive at the Bear Glacier – the sun is out and we can see the beautiful glacier glittering in the sun during we were wind blown: even having breakfast inside we had the view on this amazing glacier.
We follow this beautiful highway back towards the junction fill up gas and then we are ready to head further north.
Stops along the Cassiar: Bell-Irving Bridge
As we are heading north on the Cassiar Hwy we not only see some beautiful mountains – this is truly a gorgeous stretch but we stopped twice to check out the bears near the Highway: we love watching them. Our first stop was at the Bell Irving Bridge: when we walked back over it to admire the fast flowing river – this is such a cool area.
It’s noon time: time for a lunch break not that we get too tired from driving. And this rest area is super, on the lower level are several picnic tables directly at the beautiful lake in the sunshine – and it is perfect to wander a bit along the lake to enjoy the amazing lake-mountain views. Soon we are unable to say which one is the nicest lake and the best view.
Checking the gorge at Burrage River Bridge
Nearly there we do one last spontaneous stop, as we drive over the bridge we see this amazing gorge and walk back to admire the racing river.
Lakefront camping at Kinaskan Lake PP
We arrive with beautiful sunshine and what is the best, there are no reserved sites!!! All is first come first serve and as we drive in, we can see all the lake front campsites – after checking them out a bit we decide for a really open one so that we are able to have lots of sun and lake view. It’s hard to decide which is the best campground and the best view. It soon started to rain: but then it is already coffee time and with views out of the camper and the sound of thunder we still have fun. As we sit there we see lots of RV’s pulling in and setting up – we were the lucky ones to have a lot of choice: but then we know it’s always good to be early.
Rain or Shine at the Lake
The thunder and the clouds came we even had a bit of rain – checking out the campsite we met again fellow travellers we met before and had time to do some clean up and relaxing. But as everywhere you can’t get rid of the Mosquitos!!!
Should we stay or should we go?
With going everyday somewhere else a relaxday on the lake would be perfect. We woke up to beautiful sunshine – that brings up the question: should we stay or should we go? Pro the sun is shining and we have a wonderful lakefront campsite – Con: there are mosquitos, it is very windy and still fairly cool and there is no beach for laying down to suntan. Decision made we will move on. After talking with a couple from Alaska she said: you now there are more mosquitos here than in Alaska (that sounds great).
